Whenever I make something, I want to show to it to everybody. I spent most of my dayjob career writing things that were published immediately online. Even having to wait 12 hours or so before the daily news podcast I produced came out early the next morning felt like an eternity.
I never could have written for a magazine — what do you mean it'll be published next month? It's written NOW! All of my books remain unwritten. Those things take years to come out. After you write 'em.
Live music is pretty satisfying. You play a song and people hear it. They applaud or they
don't. We can all move on.
Well, I have a record coming out and these things take time. First of all the EP is a physical CD and they make those things in, I don't know, factories or something?
But even streaming-only music, like the single that's coming
out first, needs some lead time. The distributor has to approve it, which takes a few days, and you don't have to but you should wait a few weeks to release it after it's ready so you can do all kinds of pre-release promotion, like sending it to radio stations and writers and all that.
My wait for my record to come out is ending soon. And so is your wait for me to get to the
point of this newsletter.
Dream Not Found, the advance single and a previous Song of the Newsletter, will be live on Bandcamp, at that link, on May 5. It will also be live on whatever streaming service you use, as long as you use one of the streaming services it'll be on, which you almost certainly do. But let's talk some more about Bandcamp.
You can stream Dream Not Found starting May 5, and
you can buy your own high-quality digital download for a buck, more if you want, but here's what else you can do. You can pre-order the EP, Us Ugly Guys Got Style, which will be out May 30. For 4 bucks. Or more if you want.
Why would you do that?
Because that not only gets you a high-quality download of the 7-song EP when it comes out on May 30, but right then, that day, May 5, you get a BONUS TRACK.
You can get ready for all this by going to my Bandcamp page right now and hitting the Follow button under my picture on the right. Then you'll get a reminder when the single goes live and if you think two songs now and six more in a few weeks for the lowlow price of $4 — more if you
want — is a good deal, you'll be in for a good deal.
OK we're getting to the point of this newsletter.
I'm playing a CD release party and I want you to come. Just you. The one who kept reading. You're the one I want
there.
Remember the flyer? As you can see, the show is May 30 at The Cave in Chapel Hill and there's two great bands plus me. Tell your friends. There will also, for the first time, be merch! I mean yeah the CDs obviously but also T-shirts.
