I've got a new video out on YouTube. It's for the semi-title track of the EP: Us Ugly Guys. The song title has two fewer words than the EP title — which adds "Got Style" — and the reason for that is I don't know I just wanted to leave them off.

Did I mention the video here it is: 

We've already covered the background and origin story of this song — my autobiography in one minute, 59 seconds — when it was the Song of the Newsletter way back in February 2024. So I'll tell you a little about the video. 

It's mostly a bunch of selfies.

Every time I play out, except the times I forget, I take a mirror selfie so I'll have a record of my outfit. I do this so I won't wear the same outfit twice in a row, or the same one to a place I wore it to recently. It's a really good system and I'm sure it would work if I ever went back and checked these photos before getting dressed for the next gig. 

If you haven't seen me wearing the same duds you just saw me in, you've just witnessed dumb luck. 

But at least I got some use out of those photos by building this video around them. 

Us Ugly Guys isn't just newly on YouTube. It's also available now on Spotify — click here to listen — and so is another song off the EP, Mediocre Man — listen to that one here. I somehow got the artwork for Mediocre Man past the weird streaming services rules. It has text that is not the name of the artist or the title of the song, which is a no-no.  

I figured I'd get dinged for the misspelled and crossed out Medioker but I think the red arrow flummoxed the AI guardian so it looks like I put one over on The Man. Or The Robot.

At the risk of Explaining the Art, I don't want you to miss that the background is beige, the most mediocre of colors.

Come On Out

A couple unusual gigs coming up in July. On July 9 I'll be playing another Grit Diaries show at Speakeasy Carrboro with 15(!) other North Carolina singer-songwriters, including Rabbi Sandra, Eric Sommer, Matthew Amy, Alan Oatley, April Anders, Michael Melia and Mimi Kramer, who you might recognize from her singing on my EP, Us Ugly Guys Got Style, which you can stream or buy at Bandcamp. We'll be trading off songs in four groups of four starting at 7 p.m. No cover. 

On July 25 I'll be on the radio! I'll be playing live on the legendary show "Pass the Hat" on  WHUP Hillsborough, 104.7 FM on your Zenith™ radio dial or you can listen live online here.
