Come on out

I mentioned in the last newsletter that I'm hoping to play more gigs, and I guess I manifested it as the influencers say, because I'm playing more gigs. The next one's coming right up on Wednesday night. 

Speakeasy, Carrboro

w/ Kudzu Drew, Josh Rosenstein

Wednesday, June 5, 8 p.m. Free

It's part of Speakeasy's Wednesday Sessions series, featuring singer-songwriters, which all three of us are, except for me, a singer-songmakerupper because I don't write songs. Drew and Josh both do a lot of interesting stuff with their guitars and looper pedals. Josh is also a comedian. I think I'm playing at 9, but it's pretty possible I'll be playing at 8. This is going to be a good show. I can tell because there's a good flyer. 

The Speakeasy is a bar but this isn't a 21+ show. Also it's not really a speakeasy. You don't have to say "Joe sent me" or anything. It's actually kind of a sunny, happy place. Underage folks can come as long as they're with someone who's 21+. If you're under 21 and want to come you can say you're with me, but tell me first. 

I've got some other shows coming up too. I'll tell you more about them later but I'm pretty happy with my busy month, all leading up to playing EnoFest on the Fourth of July. That's a big ol' two-day festival with 60 acts on four stages, which I gather are not all in the same place, otherwise it'd be like an avant-garde thing. Here's another flyer. 

That's a lot of shows, man. I need to have a bunch of songs so I don't repeat myself in case anyone comes to more than one I'm looking RIGHT at you here. Yes you. 

You might be thinking I should try to use AI to come up with some new songs, but even though you're totally not thinking that I'm telling you I refuse! I am 100% AI-free, and the reason I'm taking this brave moral stance is because I tried making up a song using AI and it sucked.

Song of the Newsletter: The Human Touch

It's not a whole song this time but a YouTube Short™ that has the opening lines of the song The Human Touch, which is about trying to use AI to make up a song — true story: I really did, and it really did suck. 

Later in the song it becomes a song about strangling a billionaire venture capitalist, and I'm proud to say that when audiences are paying attention and can hear that line, they cheer. 

I don't yet have a video of me playing this song that I like start to finish, so it's just the short this time. I'll come back to it later. But if you don't want to wait, come out to Speakeasy Wednesday! I can guarantee that this song and all the others are 100% artificial intelligence free. 

Hell, they're 100% intelligence free.
